Trade Kitchen

The Trade Kitchen is located in the Hospitality Building.

Modern facilities, managed by an experienced trainer.

The Trade Kitchen was built in 2018 and opened for operation by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, The Hon. James Merlino in 2019.

It is equipped with modern facilities and managed by an experienced Trade Kitchen Trainer.

The Trade Kitchen has:

  • Fully integrated stainless steel benches
  • Commercial coffee machine, dish washer, ovens and stoves
  • EFTPOS payment system

The Trade Kitchen meets the Food Act 1984 requirement for operation with the Bayside City Council. All students working in the Trade Kitchen undertake a safe food handling course.

Teaching and Learning.

Students in Years 11 to 12 have timetabled classes to access the Trade Kitchen for learning.

This learning forms part of their ILP and Victorian Pathways Certificate, further supporting their pathway planning.

Students develop valuable skills in hospitality, financial literacy, marketing and event management. This includes learning about customer service, food preparation, clean up, record keeping and coffee making skills.

They apply their skills and knowledge to operate the school café, Coffee LAB. This involves preparing lunch orders and providing counter service during recess for staff and students. Also, they cater for community events held in the school.

Enrichment and Extension.

Qualified and experienced baristas hold training sessions for students, reflecting the current trends in café operation and coffee making.

Students can complete accredited barista and food handling certificates.
